Fiddler On The Roof

This piece was a combination of explorations for me, influenced by a trip to MOMA and its fantastic Impressionist collection.

The background forest and sky were a fusion of Cezanne, Monet & Van Gogh techniques. The other area of exploration here for me was in the figuration of the fiddler, a stick figure comprised of five legato markings found in violin music and a whole note.  This painting spawned many more stick figure instrumentalists including a follow up piece entitled ‘String Octet”, found on this site.

If I was a rich man, I’d buy every Cezanne painting on the planet. Bidee biddee biddee biddee bum.
