World Music

I love all kinds of music from all four corners of the planet. According to Daniel Levitan in his book ‘The World in Six Songs’ “there is no known culture, now or anytime, that lacks (music) and some of the oldest human-man made artifacts found at archeological sites are musical instruments.”

I had been painting less than a year when I attempted to reproduce this globe on canvas to represent that music comes from everywhere. After outlining the continents of the Western Hemisphere and then painting in the Great Lakes, ever inspired by the the universality of John Lennon’s famous words, I decided to leave the rest of the land masses blank to represent universality of the human experience we call music.

Imagine there’s no countries; it isn’t hard to do.
