Patchwork Keyboard

With this Patchwork Keyboard I have taken the usual linear repetition of the 12 degrees of the diatonic keyboard octave  and scattered groupings of keys in all directions.

Breaking an image into its component parts opens up new possibilities to the artist. This is what modern art is all about, reflecting our familiar world back at us through an unfamiliar lens. You just never know what you’re going to see.

I subsequently painted series of keyboards based on details taken from this painting.  The upper right corner of Patchwork Keyboard inspired the One Octave Excercises, which are on display on this site.
