Ebony and Ivory

I witnessed the despicable ugliness of racial segregation in the American Deep South on several occasions when travelling by car with my family from Montreal to Florida. What I saw was simply shocking and had a permanent impact on me. I have lived my life with zero tolerance for any form of discrimination and bigotry.

This painting was inspired by the experience described and the Stevie Wonder/Paul McCartney duet of the same name.

“Ebony and Ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh Lord, why don’t we?”
