Crazy Eighths was initially sketched while on holiday in the summer of 2008, inspired by the card game I was playing with my youngest daughter at our summer cottage.
After taking a one year break from painting to focus on live music performance, this painting was finally completed in the summer of 2009.
The superimposition of the intersecting, multi-colored, multi-sized eight notes represents rhythm and polyphony; it feels like the frenetic energy of a band rocking in high gear.
It was the first of many more notation based images and sketches.
