Concerto For Two Pianos

I was inspired by Norval Morrisseau and the Woodlands style for which he is associated, where images are set within images, flowing one into the other.

I wanted to create an orchestra and piano in concerto in that style. It took me quite a while to figure out how to set the orchestral images within an piano because I was perceiving the use of an upright with its rectangular shape. While looking through a Morrisseau book, I saw a painting of a bird whose shape reminded me of a grand piano.

That was the trigger I needed and I then set out to compose this concerto for two pianos which incorporates a violin, guitar, woodwind and compact discs, inspired by this First Nations art style.
