Charlie

This painting was inspired by the minimalist iPod billboards of the early 2000s that featured a monochrome background with silhouettes in black and the iconic white iPod earbud headphones.

Based on a photo of one of Jazz’s most important historical figures, Charlie Parker, I used the background color to delineate the eyes, fingers and clothing, and used gold paint to outline Birds’ alto saxophone. The concentric circles are an LP, the gold shadows on the right side are the sound emanating from the saxophone.
