This painting is inspired by the climactic scene in Donizetti’s opera, Lucia Di Lamermoor, a classic love story triangle. Lucia murders her undesired husband-to-be on their wedding day and subsequently goes mad…(her true love kills himself upon hearing hers news, cue the strings).
This began as an attempt to use geometric blocks to portray a figure. A soprano friend provided the model for the facial expression of singing the aria. The bloodied knife drips onto the frame of the painting for a dimensional effect.
